Delk  Batten
Guitar
Baritone,Lead Vocals
Delk was born in Smithfield, VA, the Ham Capital of the World.  He still today resides on the same farm on
which he was born.  Delk made a career at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a pipe fitter and after 10 years
decided his love was agriculture and returned home to full time farming.

Delk began playing the guitar at the age of 12 and sang in his church choir.  His first experience singing solo
came at the age of 17, at which time he sang at a wedding.  Delk was dating Janet Scarborough of the
Scarborough Family Gospel Band and at 19 started singing with his bride to be in their group.  Later the
group became known as the CBS Review.  They played many venues in the tidewater area of Virginia over a
period of 8 years.

Delk met Janet Scarborough while in high school and married the love of his life. He has one daughter
Shelly and her new husband Billy.  Billy helps Delk and David drive the bus  and handles equipment on
extended tours.  Billy and Shelly have blessed  Delk and Janet with a beautiful granddaughter.  Delk's
granddaughter is the official youngest Thunder Creek fan to date as granddad had a monogrammed jump suit
made especially for her.

Through Delk's years of music, he managed to take fiddle lessons.....that was not his forte!  In November
2003, Delk, Troy, his brother in law, David Joyner and George Atkins all were attending church together at
Mill Swamp Baptist Church in Smithfield, VA.  The choir director had notified the church membership,
there would be an open pulpit sing in the church at the Sunday night Thanksgiving dinner.  David, Delk
and Troy thought they would play a joke on the choir director and shake up the church with some bluegrass.
As Delk, David , Troy, George, Bobby and Jeff were playing during the sing, David looked at the guys while
they were in the pulpit and suggested they all get together at his house Wednesday night.  That Sunday
night was the beginning of Thunder Creek.

Delk feels playing with Thunder Creek is a true blessing as much as it has been a real blast.  Praise be toGod
