David was born in Portsmouth, VA and raised in the Deep Creek area of Chesapeake, VA.  David's music
career began at the early age of  7.  He took piano lessons for four years and  disliked it!  At age 12, he
received his first Epiphone guitar.  His Uncle Jimmy Barnes, who David loved dearly taught him his first
song on the guitar.  He played  trumpet,  tuba  and the sousaphone in the junior high & high school
marching and concert band.  At age 14, he took a serious interest in country, bluegrass and gospel music.  He
sang in a teenage gospel quartet called The Watchmen.  David's mom and dad raised him on the pew at
gospel sings.  As the quartets would sing, David would hold his hand to his ear and try to harmonize with
the singers.  The Chord Masters Quartet from Manassas, VA would park their bus at his parents home,
practice in their living room and allow David to sing with them at their performances.  This stirred a
singing passion in him for many years to come.

As a young adult David one lined as an entertainer in restaurants, sang at weddings and  began to further
his career in music.  At age 20, he met Buddy Shaw and Bobby Frame, they played music together for the
next 20 years as Uncut Grass.  David met Jeff Collins  in 1983 and  they became  life long friends.  While
He and Jeff continued with  Buddy  Shaw as the band, Cut n Up,  David and Jeff began to branch out in
their individual careers but maintained contact with each other.

David met a mountain girl named Susan and two weeks after he met her, he told her he was going to marry
her.  Susan laughed and said "Marry me, you don't even know me!"  David had the last laugh.  Susan, his
wife handles all the promotional material, photography and is the web master for Thunder Creek.  David is
father to his wonderful daughter Maria and she has given David two high spirited grandsons who are
loving bluegrass music.  David is self-employed and is a Class A general contractor in the State of Virginia.

Through his years of music, David has had the opportunity to personally meet and be influenced by many
great people in the Gospel & Bluegrass industries such as Buck, Dottie & Reba Rambo, Brock & Ben
Spears, Ivan Parker, Squire Parsons, Doyle Lawson, Tony Rice, Jamie Daily & Russell Moore.

Then in November 2003, David  and Jeff decided to form another bluegrass band  resulting  after a Gospel
sing at Mill Swamp Baptist Church.  At one of their first practices they decided the band should be called
Thunder Creek, Thunder for the voice of God and Creek for bluegrass.

It has been David's life long desire to serve  and glorify the Lord with the talents that the Lord  Jesus
Christ has blessed him with.                        I Peter 4:10 &11
